So I recently had the opportunity to meet baby Aidan, who may quite possibly be the coolest little newborn baby I've had the chance to photograph. When planning a session with parents of a newborn I always suggest thinking of items that have some significance to them or their family. Usually this results in a nice blanket that a relative may have made, or something that has been passed down for a generation or two, and sometimes it is an item relating to one of the parent's line of work... think Fireman, Policeman, MediVac EMT (yes, I've used a MediVac EMT's helicopter helmet for a newborn photo before, it was awesome). On this particular session, Aidan's Dad, Dave, asked if we could use his motorcycle helmet, to which I excitedly replied "yes, of course we can!". Little did I know it was a super rad candy apple red old school style helmet, talk about an awesome prop. As if that wasn't enough, Dave also had a mustache pacifier to use, this just bumped the cool factor from 10 to 11, that's right, this one goes to 11.
So on to the shoot, we started with some more traditional type of photos and then progressed to the pacifier and eventually finishing it off with some photos in the nursery after we captured the motorcycle helmet photos. Aidan didn't feel much like sleeping for us during the shoot, even after feedings and the space heater heating things up, but that was ok since he was very cooperative and allowed us to capture some great images regardless (confession, if I had my ideal shoot I'd have half of the photos with a sleeping baby and half of them with an awake and alert baby, but the thing about newborns is they basically have their own agenda and, as a photographer, you just have to go with the flow and be able to change things up on the fly). Here are some of my favorites from our session:
eyelashes... didn't I say last post I was a sucker for them?
The mustache pacifier makes an appearance
A little banner I made for the shoot
I'm pretty sure he was just "resting his eyes" here lol
Here is where we cranked it up to 11 with the mustache and the helmet :-D
We ended the shoot in the nursery where I managed to catch him actually sleeping. This shot was one I had envisioned doing for a little while and I'm really happy with the results.
These were just a small sampling of the images we captured of Aidan, it was really tough to narrow it down to just these few to share. I told you he was one cool newborn :-)
